Urban Summit | Leaders and Local Residents Discuss Opportunities to Rebuild Urban Community: Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock Luncheon Guest Speaker

Several metropolitan communities in various states always strive to rebuild their urban communities. Kansas City is unlike any other - mainly because we have concerned leaders and concerned residents. This past Saturday, Kansas City held their 6th annual Urban Summit at the Penn Valley Community College. The Urban Summit is overseen by Bishop James Tindall, Sr. Several hundred citizens - young and old - came out to participate in various group discussions - similar to a town hall meeting - to discuss new ideas in rebuilding blighted areas in their communities. Workshops included:

  • Crime / Re-Entry | facilitated by Gwendolyn Grant, President & CEO Urban League of Greater Kansas City
  • Economic Development | moderated by Dwayne Williams, President & CEO Twelfth Street Heritage Development Corporation
  • Education | presented by Dwayne Crompton, Community Activist & Educator
  • Health | facilitated by Julee Jonez, Radio Personality - Hot 103.3 FM/Carter Broadcasting Group; and Eric Wesson, Executive Director 1 Goal Consultants & Staff Writer, The CALL newspaper
The morning speaker was Rev. James A. Terrance, Jr., pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, KCMO

The afternoon luncheon speaker was Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock, senior pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. (see photo above).
