Oh to be a high school senior again. Those days seem so long ago. The opportunities high school seniors have these days are nothing like what I had available when I was coming up in high school. They have more scholarships available, organizations that take you under their wing, mentor you and even prepare you for the job market. Last Friday, a couple hundred local high school seniors from various schools in the greater Kansas City area, gathered at the Ewing Kauffman Center for the annual SCLC Youth Leadership Conference. Breakfast and lunch were provided. The youth participated in several break-out sessions surrounding such topics as:- Choosing a Career Path
- Sexual Choices
- Social Networking/Self Respect
- Teen Relationships
- Teen Empowerment
Facilitators for the breakout sessions were: David Belt; Catherine Flowers; James Koppang; D. Antoine Lilly; and Kenton Schiele.
Morning guest speaker was legendary basketball star, Clay Johnson. The afternoon luncheon speaker was Professor Eddie Glaude, Jr.
